I am Luca Gagliardelli, a PhD student of the Doctoral School in ICT of Modena and Reggio Emilia. My research topic is the the big data integration.

Before starting the PhD school I worked as research fellow in the DB Group (from May 2015 until October 2016).

Summary

I am Fabio Benedetti, a PhD student of the Doctoral School in ICT of Modena and Reggio Emilia. My research topic regards the study of ontologies in the eHealth domain and now my research effort is focused on the development of LODeX: a tool that produces a highly representative summary of a LOD source. Starting from the URL of a SPARQL Endpoint, the tool launches a set of predefined SPARQL queries and automatically generates a summary of the source. During my Ph.D i discovered a real passion for Data Science. I fed this passion taking some specialization online courses that made me able to work with large amount of data.

Before starting the PhD school I did an internship at Datariver with the goal of reengineering a framework for clinical data management. In July 2012 I obtained the Master Degree in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. My Degree dissertation was: “Re-engineering of a framework for the management and analysis of clinical data in the form of web application database”. I collaborated with Doxee in a Business Intelligence and Data Integration project. During this period I explored the use of the Pentaho Open Source platform to integrate data coming from different Databases and produce BI reports. Since October 2012 I collaborate in DataRiver research projects.

LODeX

The Linked Open Data (LOD) Cloud has more than tripled its sources in just three years (from 295 sources in 2011 to 1014 in 2014). While the LOD data are being produced at a increasing rate, LOD tools lack in producing an high level representation of datasets and in supporting users in the exploration and querying of a source. To overcome the above problems and significantly increase the number of consumers of LOD data, we devised a new method and a tool, called LODeX, that promotes the understanding, navigation and querying of LOD sources both for experts and for beginners. It also provides a standardized and homogeneous summary of LOD sources and supports user in the creation of visual queries on previously unknown datasets.

A simple project with some script that implement techniques of Sentiment Analysis for the course of Big Data Analysis of the department of engeneering of Modena e Reggio Emilia.

 The School has been characterized by mixture of invited talks and tutorials on several aspects of data science, including data analytics, data publishing and interlinking, social media management, open data, and crowdsourcing.

 I won a grant as Early Career Scientist and I have been assigned the Big Data Analytic Interest group. I participated to the RDA Fourth Plenary Meeting 22 - 24 September 2014 in Amsterdam, where I also presented a poster containing my research on Linked Open Data.

My FOAF description (FOAF project)

I'm a co-founder and CEO of DataRiver, a Spin-Off of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia founded on June 2009 to deliver the Open Source version of the MOMIS Data Integration System. I'm a member of the DBGroup research group at the "Università di Modena e Reggio Emilia" led by Prof. Sonia Bergamaschi.

I obtained the PhD degree at the Doctorate School in "ICT - Computer Engineering and Science" , "Università di Modena e Reggio Emilia", in 2009. My PhD advisors were Prof. Domenico Beneventano and Prof. Isabel F. Cruz
My PhD thesis: "Query Management in Data Integration Systems: the MOMIS approach"

During 2008, I was a visiting researcher at the ADVIS Research Laboratory – Department of Computer Science – University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) , led by Prof. Isabel F. Cruz. The research period was funded by the scholarship “Gruppo Giovani Imprenditori” – Confindustria Modena.

I obtained the "Laurea" Degree in Computer Engineering at the "Università di Modena e Reggio Emilia", Faculty of Engineering, in 2004.
My Degree dissertation: "Interoperabilità tra ontologie eterogenee: i traduttori OWL - ODLI3"

Research Interests

My research activities are in the context of Data Integration Systems, Global Query Management and Semantic Web and are devoted to integration, mapping and querying of ontologies.
The goal of my current research activity is to investigate about the problem of "object fusion" in query processing over heterogeneous sources in a distributed framework (such, as an information integration system, a peer-to-peer network) taking into account the object identification problem and the problem of inconsistent information among different sources. The aim of my research is to study a general framework for distributed query processing which takes into account the object fusion problem both in query formulation (by user preferences) and in query rewriting and execution.

SHORT C.V.	Francesco Guerra received his PhD in information engineering at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia in 2003. Since November 2005, he is a researcher on computer science at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, where he teaches computer science and enterprise information systems.  His main research interests include integration of heterogeneous information sources, ontologies, keyword-based search and the Semantic Web. He contributed to the development of MOMIS, a mediator based system for the integration of data sources. MOMIS has been also exploited in the Semantic Web, as tool for the creation and the integration of ontologies. His activity was also addressed to the development of techniques for the identification of “relevant values” among the ones contained in the domain of attributes of data sources. A prototype, called RELEVANT, implementing the technique has been developed. Recently, he started to research about keyword-based search on structured data sources, in particular focusing on techniques for dealing with data sources where only the structure is available. The techniques have been implemented in two prototypes, KEYMANTIC and KEYRY, based on an extension of the Hungarian Algorithm and on a Hidden Markov Model respectively. Francesco Guerra has participated to several to several Italian and European projects.
